”Color gamut” is the range of colors a device can reproduce. Your computer monitor displays a large RGB gamut with rich, saturated colors. An offset printer using the four color print process has a much smaller color gamut. As the color gamut shrinks for printing on equipment limited to CMYK, the richer RGB colors are no longer available. Colors may be ”clipped” (compressed) as you convert from the larger gamut of RGB to the smaller gamut of CMYK. Deep blues and greens suffer the most from clipping.
